11-12 O-Pee-Chee Box Break
Not too long ago, I received a box of 11-12 O-Pee-Chee hockey. The brand, O-Pee-Chee, is produced by Upper Deck but originated from Frank Leclair. There were 36 cards per box and 6 cards per pack. So there were a vast amount of cards that I got. Let’s see how I did:
127 base cards (6 cards per pack)
At 6 cards per pack, I found a ton of base cards. In O-Pee-Chee, I roughly averaged about two inserts (includes retro variations) and four base cards per pack. The design of the base cards are a change from previous years of O-Pee-Chee. There is a contemperary look with the blue border surrounding the cards.
37 Retro variations 1:1
Retro Variations come in every pack. They have a nice plain look with different colors on different cards. I got 37 of these because one of the packs had two of them in it. Here are some of my favorite Retro Variations I pulled:
2 Team Leaders – OPC Inserts 1:4
These cards feature a team’s stats with their best players (in that particular category) on each card. I got “team leader’s” cards of the Columbus Blue Jackets and the San Jose Sharks.
1 League Leaders – OPC Inserts 1:4
Like the team leasers cards, the league leaders card features the league and the best player’s stats (particular category). On this card, I received the league leaders in the hitting department. Cal Clutterbuck, Tuomo Ruutu, and Dustin Brown are all pictured on this card.
1 Trophy Winners – OPC Inserts 1:4
These cards feature a player that won an NHL award during the 10-11 season. Martin St.Louis was the winner of the Lady Byng trophy in the 2010-2011 NHL season.
4 Beard Variation Cards
These cards are variations of the base cards. They have the payer pictured during the playoffs. During the playoffs, most players son’t shave and leave their beards on their faces. This is a subset devoted to that. I got beard variations of J.P Dumont (pictured in Sabres uniform), Eric Staal, Cam Ward, Joe Pavelski
8 Marquee Rookie Cards – 1:2 Rookies/Legends
This is the rookie card subset in 11-12 O-Pee-Chee hockey. I got marquee rookie cards of Alex Stalock, Romin Wick, Yann Sauve, Carson McMillan, Carl Klingberg, Andre Benoit, Launce Bouma, and Justin Dibenedetto.
4 OPC Update Rookie cards– 1:12
Mattias Tedenby, Eric Wellwood, Evgeny Grachev, Matt Hacket.
These are update rookies from 10-11 OPC. They have a white background and say 10-11 O-Pee-Chee on the back.
1 OPC Update Retro Variation Rookie Cards- 1:36
These are a retro form of the 10-11 O-Pee-Chee update cards. I got 1 of the 10-11 O-Pee-Chee retro variation rookie cards. I pulled former Red Wing rookie Cory Emmerton.
10 O-Pee-Chee Marquee Legends – 1:2 Rookies/Legends
This a subset devoted just to the legends of hockey. Every two packs you open, you will either find a legend or rookie card. I got 18 legends/rookies. The 1:2 ratio was very accurate because I got 18 legends/rookies in 36 packs. I also got 2 foil legends cards as well. One regular and one black bordered foil.
9 Regular Foil Variation Cards
I got 9 foil regular cards. These cards have foil and gloss all over the card. I really like these inserts. These cards are not serial numbered. I got Chris Butler, Max Pacioretty, Matt Greene, Al Montoya, Nicklas Backstrom, Tom Wandell, Sami Salo, Darroll Powe, Mark Messier (legends).
5 Black Bordered Foil Varation Cards
Like the regular foil cards, these cards have gloss and foil all over it. Though, these cards are serial numbered unlike the regular foil cards. I got Erik Johnson, Andy Bathgate (legends), R.J Umberger, Derek Stepan, and Trevor Daley.
Here is a picture of the back of a black border foil card. Notice the 41/100 numbering.
Well, everything looked like a normal O-Pee-Chee box until…
BOOM!
1 O-Pee-Chee Souvenirs Jersey Card
Really nice card here. Especially with the four-way jersey card instead of a standard jersey card. In addition to that, I also got the 2013 Stanley Cup Finalists the Boston Bruins. With four of their top players. I got Patrice Bergeron, Zdeno Chara, Tuukka Rask, and Tim Thomas.
Overall, I really like the 11-12 O-Pee-Chee product. There are a good amount of hockey cards and inserts.
Big Thanks to Upper Deck’s Chris Carlin for providing me with the box for the break.
